This was the central message of the event to deliver the results and lessons learned from the ProNDC project “Support for the fulfillment of Colombia’s climate goals”, which was attended by the Ministries of Environment and Agriculture and the DNP as main counterparts and the German Embassy on behalf of German development cooperation, which was implemented through the GIZ on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection.

During the event, representatives of communities, associations, local, regional and national governments, academia, trade unions, among others, met to discuss ProNDC’s contributions to adaptation and mitigation processes developed in Córdoba and Sucre in the milk, meat and corn value chains and their articulation with the construction of national policies and strategies focused on monitoring, financing, sustainable development and a gender approach.

As one of the main contributions to the country, Elena Fernández, director of the project, symbolically handed over the Climate Action Monitoring System (SSAC) to Alfonso Valderrama, Director of Innovation and Development of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, as a contribution to the monitoring of actions from the territories and associations that seek to contribute to the reduction of emissions in agricultural processes, which are the main contributors of greenhouse gases in the country.

Another of the most important results was the contribution to the participatory construction of the National Gender and Climate Change Plan of the NDC of Colombia, in which women’s organizations were able to contribute effectively so that it was proposed according to the reality of rural women and so that they could prioritize effective solutions to climate challenges, which affect them in a differential manner.

Under the slogan #YoHagoelCambio, ProNDC demonstrated that it is possible to generate climate action at different scales and connections for effective and strategic solutions at all levels. All this through a value chain approach that comprehensively addresses the challenges of climate change.
