With the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris
Climate Agreement, the international community has put forward an ambitious
vision that forms a blueprint for international cooperation. In this context the
project supports the BMU in its climate and environmental dialogue with major
emerging economies, including India, Indonesia and China. In addition to policy
advice, it assists in the implementation and organisation of high-level bilateral
environmental forums and regional and international conferences, and implements
capacity-building measures in the focus countries. In addition to policymakers, key
stakeholders from industry, academia and civil society take part in the dialogue
forums. The aim is to promote bilateral and international exchange on an
environmental-friendly and low-carbon economy, and thereby support consensus-
building on key issues in international processes on climate and environmental
policy.
- 2021 two dialogue events on the economic valuation of marine ecosystem services of a Bio-Bridge Initiative project in the context of the Convention on Biological Diversity were supported. Based on this, a regional guidance document was developed and publicly presented in a webinar on Aug. 17, 2022
(www.international-climate-initiative.com/…). - 2021 a Green Recovery Academy was conducted. Based on the results, a hybrid Green Recovery Forum was held in Panama on 12-13 May 2022.
- In November 2020, a virtual regional workshop was held to disseminate the key messages of the Global Sustainable Development Report 2019, which shows the implementation status of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- In 2020, an online training was implemented in Asia on national climate change contributions and SDGs, Leave no one behind in COVID-19 measures, and digitalization in the context of the 2030 Agenda.
- Indonesia:
- Building on the 2021 Green Recovery Roadmap developed jointly with the Ministry of Planning (www.un-page.org/…), the project has developed training on renewable energy and energy efficiency in the context of green recovery
- Colombia:
- Together with the project Apoyo a la NDC de Colombia, the podcast” De la recuperación verde, a la paz” was produced. In five episodes, Colombian and German experts met and discussed current topics of green recovery. All episodes are available here: open.spotify.com/… In 2022, the episodes were broadcasted on several Colombian radio stations.
- Argentina:
- Together with the partners of the Argentinean Ministry of the Environment, dialogues were continued in the area of recycling and waste management. On July 16 and 18, 2019, two Open Source Circular Economy Days (OSCE days) were held in cooperation with the German think tank CRCLR, bringing together experts, environmentalists and innovators to exchange ideas and solutions.
- China:
- As part of the German-Chinese Track II Dialogue on Climate Change and Sustainable Development, the project supports Working Group 3 on “Science Towards a Long- Term Strategic Scenario for Low Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Carbon Neutrality.” Here, the experts identified six factors to meet the 1.5°C: Phasing out of coal-based power generation, strong growth in renewable power generation, energy efficiency, electrification, hydrogen, and carbon capture and storage (CCS).
- The 6th German-Chinese Environmental Forum in October 2019 focused, among other things, on the fight against climate change and the preservation of biodiversity.
- India:
- In 2014 and 2015, the “Indo-German Expert Group on Green and Inclusive Economy” developed recommendations for cooperation between the countries in the field of economic and environmental policy. Since 2015, the exchange of knowledge has been consolidated and expanded through working groups. The bilateral working groups met again ahead of the 3rd Indo-German Environment Forum in February 2019 in New Delhi.
