The new territorial headquarters of Parques Nacionales Naturales was inaugurated in Pasto on December 6 , 2025. It is a strategic space that will strengthen the management of six key protected areas in southwestern Colombia, consolidating the exchange of knowledge with local communities in one of the country’s most biodiverse territories.
From this headquarters, conservation, environmental education and research actions will be articulated in fundamental areas for the ecological and cultural connectivity between the Andes, the Amazon and the Pacific, reaffirming Nariño’s role as a biocultural corridor of national and international relevance.
The new infrastructure was made possible thanks to funding from the German Government, through the Development Bank – KfW, in the framework of the “Protected Areas and Biological Diversity” program, a cooperation that for more than a decade has strengthened protected areas, infrastructure, equipment and community processes in Colombia.
This milestone reflects the commitment of German cooperation to biodiversity protection, institutional strengthening and joint work with rural, indigenous and fishing communities, contributing to sustainable development models that integrate conservation, livelihoods and peace building with nature in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and those of the Climate and Just Energy Transition Partnership.
