Podcast climatIKIando

ClimatIKIando is a podcast of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) Interface project in Colombia. Its objective is to make visible the different voices of the IKI projects in the country considering different perspectives: the local approach from the territories, the technical vision of its implementers and the national perspective.

The IKI is a German government program that funds projects around the world in four thematic areas: mitigation, adaptation to climate change, biodiversity conservation and restoration of carbon sinks.

The IKI Interface project facilitates the linkage, exchange and mutual learning between IKI projects that are active in Colombia.

Episode 1: Observing to conserve. The role of community monitoring in biodiversity protection.

Colombia is one of the most biodiverse countries on the planet. Its mountains, jungles, rivers and seas are home to thousands of species of plants, animals and unique ecosystems that exist nowhere else in the world. But how do we take care of something so valuable if we don’t know what is happening to it?

This 1st episode of the climatIKIando podcast tells us how IKI* projects implement community monitoring, a powerful tool in which local communities observe, record and understand changes in their environment. Each bird count, water analysis or jaguar footprint becomes a key tool for biodiversity protection.
