In Colombia, Peru and Mexico, the Latin American Climate Assets Disclosure Initiative (LACADI) developed the Climate Conscious Leadership Workshop, a space designed to strengthen the capacities of board members and senior management on the integration of climate risk into corporate governance. The sessions, held between September and October 2025, brought together more than 30 representatives of the regional financial system in Bogota and Lima, and will have an additional edition in Mexico City in January 2026.
The workshop sought to raise awareness among governing bodies of their strategic role in guiding organizations towards resilient business models aligned with international standards, such as the climate governance principles of the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). In Colombia, 17 members of the boards of directors of banks, insurance companies and pension funds participated, together with experts from CESA’s Center for Corporate Governance and representatives of the business sector.
In Peru, the activity brought together specialists in sustainable finance, climate change and corporate governance, as well as board members from the financial and real sector, leading companies in climate governance and a representative of the Superintendencia del Mercado de Valores. The sessions were made possible thanks to the partnership between LACADI, NUAM and the Lima Stock Exchange.
The high level of participation and the interest expressed by attendees reflect a clear message: boards of directors recognize that climate change is no longer a reputational issue but a strategic issue that affects financial, regulatory, operational and legal risks. Adequate climate governance makes it possible to anticipate opportunities, define clear goals, monitor progress and strengthen investor and stakeholder confidence. LACADI, implemented within the framework of the International Climate Initiative (IKI), will continue to promote training spaces to empower governance bodies in the region and continue to consolidate climate-conscious leadership to boost the resilience of the financial sector in the face of current and future challenges.
