Peru, Brazil, and Colombia are megadiverse, multiethnic, and multicultural countries. They cover over 80 percent of the Amazon Basin and other important ecosystems. Biodiversity is at a critical turning point. Since 1970, 94 percent of wildlife populations in Latin America and the Caribbean have been lost. The project helps to stop and reverse this loss in those three countries. Therefore it supports the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework by translating the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) into sub-national agendas that can be effectively implemented in selected action sites. This will be achieved by promoting a greater collaboration, coordination and efficiency across national and sub-national levels (Whole-of- government approach), by engaging diverse groups across society to further common policy goals (Whole-of-society approach), by enhancing local capacity and by promoting innovative financial mechanisms.
