Rural populations in parts of Colombia continue to live in poverty, with limited access to electricity and basic services. The introduction of dual land use systems that combine crop or livestock production with renewable energy generation through photovoltaic systems can reduce Colombia’s dependence on hydropower and fossil fuels, while promoting food security and energy self-sufficiency of smallholder farming communities. In this context, the project aims to support the Colombian government and its goal of an inclusive and equitable energy transition through the introduction of agriphotovoltaic (APV) systems. It establishes APV pilots for different crop and livestock systems, designs an APV vocational training program, conducts participatory and interdisciplinary research and trains micro, small and medium enterprises to provide new APV services and inputs. It also establishes inclusive finance mechanisms, and supports relevant stakeholders to improve the enabling environment.
