The First Climate Alliance Week between Colombia and Germany was held at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogota from June 3 to 6. The inauguration of this week included speeches by the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Lena Estrada Añokazi, and the German Ambassador, Martina Klumpp, who highlighted the strategic value of the Alliance to promote climate action, environmental protection, a just energy transition and better coordination of cooperation between the two countries.
This opening also marked the start of the 6th Annual IKI Colombia Interface Workshop , a strategic space that brought together around 120 people from 32 projects of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) together with representatives of the Colombian partner ministries and the German IKI ministries.
A strategic meeting for territorial transformation
During the workshop, an exchange panel was held on government priorities in the areas of climate, biodiversity and energy transition, where the need for intersectoral and multilevel work to mobilize commitments, resources and capacities was highlighted. A dialogue was also held between representatives of IKI Germany and the implementers of IKI projects in Colombia, focused on translating the IKI 2030 strategy to the reality of the country and learning about the main challenges and achievements of the implementation of IKI projects in the territories.
To close the day, the IKI projects organized three parallel events on community monitoring, an NDC laboratory, and just energy transition. During these spaces, challenges, lessons learned and experiences of the implementations in the territory were shared. They also encouraged the updating of knowledge and the creation of new opportunities for collaboration.
Outstanding results
The annual IKI Colombia 2025 Interface Workshop brought together 32 projects of the International Climate Protection Initiative (IKI) with their counterparts in Colombia and Germany, generating a valuable space for exchange and collaboration. In total, 26 implementing organizations were strengthened by identifying new synergies with government actors in both countries, as well as with other IKI projects.
During the meeting, experiences, challenges and good practices on the implementation of climate actions in the territories were shared. Participants agreed on the importance of continuing to promote these spaces for dialogue, which combine substantive content with dynamic interaction. This approach not only fosters technical exchange, but also promotes the creation of sustainable networks and the maintenance of dialogue beyond the event.
The First Climate Alliance Week represented a milestone in strengthening bilateral relations between Colombia and Germany. Together, the Annual IKI Colombia Interface Workshop and the other events held during this week give an impetus to create new initiatives and programs in the global climate, biodiversity and just energy transition agendas.
