On December 10, 2025, Colombia officially presented the publication of the National Forest Inventory, Amazon chapter, a scientific tool that provides precise information on the state of Colombian forests and their key contribution to address climate change. The research, led by the IDEAM (Colombia Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies) with the technical and financial support of the “REM Visión Amazonía” program, was carried out over seven years and gathered information on 1,410 plots of land distributed throughout the country, 520 of which are located in the Amazon region.
The information collected represents a historic step forward for the country’s forest management, providing a solid basis for planning and conservation with technical criteria and comparable data between regions. It is also a key instrument for the country’s environmental objectives, as the data will help guide conservation actions, strengthen forestry incentives, support international commitments such as the Paris Agreement, and identify endangered or banned species to prevent their illegal exploitation. This information will also make it possible to better guide investments, strengthen monitoring and support communities that live from and for the forest.
