Steering Committee of the Partnership for Climate and Just Energy Transition

  • In its second steering committee, the co-presidency for 2025 was ratified by the Colombian Ministry of Mines and Energy and the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection.
  • The Climate and Just Energy Transition Partnership, created in 2023, is the most important high-level political management and coordination body between Colombia and Germany for the advancement and promotion of climate, environmental and energy management in both countries.

The second steering committee of the Climate and Just Energy Transition Partnership, an initiative that seeks to promote environmental, climate and energy management in Germany and Colombia, brought together representatives from various ministries of the two governments to direct the technical and financial work, strengthening the political coordination between the two countries.

As of March 2025, the rotating binational co-presidency is assumed by the Colombian Ministry of Mines and Energy and the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection. “We are pleased to assume the co-presidency of this Partnership as the joint work between Colombia and Germany is key to move towards a just energy transition in our country,” according to Juan Carlos Bedoya, Vice Minister of Energy (E) of the Colombian Ministry of Mines and Energy.

For Ursina Krumpholz, who heads the Latin America division at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, “being co-chairs of the Partnership allows us to prioritize actions and initiatives that strengthen energy and climate economic development in both countries. It is a great pleasure for me and my team to assume the co-chair.

The two countries have strengthened their cooperation on issues of just energy transition, climate protection, biodiversity and environment, sustainable urban development and climate finance through thematic groups, exchanges and annual work plans that seek to promote joint actions that respond to the needs of both governments.

The Partnership seeks to create spaces for exchange and mutual learning, which is why a High-Level Dialogue on Just Energy Transition was announced for June 4, 2025, which will be framed within the Climate Partnership Week. Through this steering committee, both countries reaffirm their long-term commitment to the fulfilment of their objectives aligned with the global climate and biodiversity agendas, the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs), among others.
