The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), through the SPAR6C program, will participate in the Colombia Carbon Forum 2026, the country’s main event on carbon markets, to be held on April 16 and 17 at the Agora Convention Center in Bogota. This space brings together key players from the public, private and academic sectors to discuss progress, challenges and opportunities in climate action.
As part of the event, the SPAR6C program will moderate the panel “Article 6.2: Alignment and Challenges of Carbon Standards in Colombia”, to be held on Thursday, April 16 at 12:10 pm. This panel will address the results of the technical study “Assessment of Colombian Independent Crediting Mechanisms for Article 6.2 Usage”, developed by Carbon Limits, a partner of the SPAR6C consortium, which analyzes the alignment of the independent mechanisms based in Colombia: BioCarbon Standard, Cercarbono and COLCX, against the requirements of environmental integrity, transparency and governance established by Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement.
The discussion will bring together representatives of these standards and experts to analyze the gaps identified and discuss opportunities to strengthen the participation of Colombian projects in international cooperative approaches. Among the key issues, the need to strengthen the independence of validation and verification bodies as a key element to ensure the integrity of the mechanisms is highlighted.
Additionally, the program will have a stand at the event, where technical tools and resources developed to support the implementation of Article 6 in Colombia will be presented. This space will allow attendees to learn first-hand about the program’s progress and explore opportunities for articulation with key players in the carbon market ecosystem.
SPAR6C’s participation in this event reflects the program’s commitment to capacity building, the generation of technical evidence and the promotion of strategic discussions that contribute to a robust implementation of Article 6 in Colombia.
