ClimatIKIando is a podcast of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) Interface project in Colombia. Its objective is to make visible the different voices of the IKI projects in the country considering different perspectives: the local approach from the territories, the technical vision of its implementers and the national perspective.
The IKI is a German government program that funds projects around the world in four thematic areas: mitigation, adaptation to climate change, biodiversity conservation and restoration of carbon sinks.
The IKI Interface project facilitates the linkage, exchange and mutual learning between IKI projects that are active in Colombia.

Episode 1: Observing to conserve. The role of community monitoring in biodiversity protection.
Colombia is one of the most biodiverse countries on the planet. Its mountains, jungles, rivers and seas are home to thousands of species of plants, animals and unique ecosystems that exist nowhere else in the world. But how do we take care of something so valuable if we don’t know what is happening to it?
This 1st episode of the climatIKIando podcast tells us how IKI* projects implement community monitoring, a powerful tool in which local communities observe, record and understand changes in their environment. Each bird count, water analysis or jaguar footprint becomes a key tool for biodiversity protection.

*This 1st episode was produced in collaboration with the IKI project Protected Areas and Peace in Colombia, implemented by World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF), and the IKI project From Roots to Tides – Resilient Ecosystems, implemented by Fondo Patrimonio Natural in consortium with Forliance, the Institute of Marine and Coastal Research (INVEMAR) and the Institute of Environmental Research of the Pacific (IIAP). All projects are implemented within the framework of the International Climate Initiative (IKI).

Episode 2: Nature-Based Solutions
Colombia ranges from Andean páramos to tropical rainforests, deserts and plains. This diversity of ecosystems is vital for the health of the planet, but it also makes the country particularly vulnerable to climate change. Against this backdrop, the solution can be found in nature itself: the restoration and sustainable use of ecosystems that have been managed by indigenous and peasant communities for generations.
In this second episode of the climatIKIando podcast, we will learn how IKI* projects implement Nature-Based Solutions (NBS). These are actions that protect, manage and restore ecosystems to benefit both biodiversity and communities, while helping to address social and environmental problems such as water scarcity, flooding or agricultural productivity.

All projects are implemented within the framework of the International Climate Initiative (IKI).

Episode 3: Women Caring for Life: Voices from Climate Action
Talking about climate change also implies talking about the inequality of its impact. In rural areas, where the effects of the climate crisis are felt with greater intensity, women face conditions that deepen their vulnerability: less access to land, financial resources, training processes and productive technologies. Despite this, it is also women who are leading many of the solutions.
In recent years, Colombia has made progress in incorporating a gender approach in its climate change and biodiversity policies, largely thanks to the advocacy of women’s organizations that have positioned their voices and experiences in the construction of such policies, an effort to which the International Climate Initiative (IKI) has added through its Gender Strategy.
In this 3rd episode of ClimatIKIando, the voices of women and girls from different regions of Colombia reveal how climate action and biodiversity protection are strengthened when they integrate a gender approach, leading to fairer, more inclusive and sustainable solutions.

*This 3rd episode was produced within the framework of the IKI Interface project, implemented by GIZ Colombia on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN). It counted with the collaboration of the IKI Save the Blue Five project -implemented by GIZ Colombia, the Permanent Commission for the South Pacific, Conservation International and MarViva- and the Climate Diplomacy Action Program (CDAP). All projects are implemented within the framework of the International Climate Initiative (IKI).
