As part of the SolER project (Local Solutions for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy), led by the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) within the framework of the Partnership, an exchange on energy efficiency and renewable energy—fundamental pillars for addressing climate change—took place on August 19 and 20.
During the event, delegations from Bogotá, Cali, and Barranquilla gained firsthand insight into Medellín’s experience in:
- Institutional strengthening mechanisms and regulations: tools that facilitate the implementation of energy efficiency projects.
- Funding and Operational Management: Implementation of Energy Efficiency Measures and Renewable Energy Solutions in Public Buildings.
The tour included a technical visit to the La Alpujarra Thermal District and to various solar power generation projects on the roofs of public buildings. There, the participants assessed the progress Medellín has made thanks to effective interagency coordination.
The event included the participation of the Bogotá Departments of the Environment and Planning; the Cali Departments of Planning and Goods and Services; the Cali Administrative Department of Environmental Management (DAGMA); EmCali; the Barranquilla City Administration; Triple A; K-yena; the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO); the Colombian Council for Sustainable Construction; C40 Cities; and Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM).
The Secretariat of Supplies and Services of the Medellín Mayor’s Office hosted the meeting, encouraging the governments of Barranquilla, Bogotá, and Cali to develop innovative and sustainable energy management solutions.
