Through the IKI – Living Lakes Biodiversity and Climate Initiative, funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUV), Fundación Humedales is protecting the Laguna de Fúquene and the Lago de Tota, located in the departments of Cundinamarca and Boyacá. These lagoons are biodiversity hotspots, as well as providing water for thousands of people living in their watersheds.

One of the components of this project, which focuses on the integrated management of high Andean lakes, is dedicated to supporting rural women in adapting to climate change. In the framework of this initiative, good agricultural practices that reduce erosion and protect biodiversity are promoted and monitoring is carried out with the community to assess the ecological status of the lake and the presence of invasive species.
