With the campaign “I want to, so do they” the IKI Save the Blue Five project seeks to connect with migratory marine megafauna through empathy and knowledge. Their needs are not so different from human needs, and caring for their home is part of our commitment to the planet.
Save the Blue Five is a regional project funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) through the International Climate Initiative (IKI). Within the framework of the IKI project, various awareness-raising activities are being carried out to implement best practices for the conservation of migratory marine megafauna such as whales, dolphins, sharks, manta rays and sea turtles (Blue Five species) in the Southeast Pacific region from Costa Rica to Chile.
As part of the project, the regional campaign “Yo quiero, Ellas también” was launched, which, through the magic of the simple story, aims to bring the general public closer to the migratory marine megafauna through a communication campaign developed along three lines of impact: emotional, informative and with a call to action.
This campaign aims to create or increase people’s empathy towards marine megafauna by contrasting daily human activities and needs with the needs of these marine species and their habitats.
The narrative axes of the campaign focus on:
- I want to live in a clean environment:
Data related to various types of marine pollution, habitat and ecosystem protection, and the impact of human activities on these are presented.
- I want to be in safe spaces:
Relates information regarding the effects of climate change and the impact on marine and coastal habitats and ecosystem as a result of human activities.
- I want to live in this space:
Understands the difficulty faced by marine species to continue their biological cycles as a consequence of economic or extractive activities that are not friendly to the ecosystem.
- I want to do my part:
A reminder that people’s actions have an impact on all ecological connectivity regardless of what city or country we are in.
Blue Five marine species are essential not only for local communities but also for maintaining the balance of marine ecosystems, with a direct impact on climate stability and global biodiversity. Learn more here: https://savethebluefive.net/comunicacion/campanas/yo-quiero-ellas-tambien
